Make a difference with
wood construction
The world’s resources are being stretched. An economy based on fossil materials and other non-renewable materials is not viable as a long-term option.
We believe that everything that is made from fossil-based materials today can be made from a tree tomorrow.
With our foundation in wood-based materials and solutions, Stora Enso is in a key position to drive development in line with the global trends and create customer and end-consumer value in the bioeconomy.
Additionally, wooden buildings store carbon for decades, or even centuries, keeping carbon dioxide
out of the atmosphere where it would add to global warming.
As Stora Enso supplies hundreds of thousands of cubic metres of wood every year to construction sites all over the world, renewable materials make a big difference.
We need a new approach and the renewable material wood is part of the solution.
Wood grows back.

Choose renewability
Wood-based solutions a foundation for further growth
Urbanization is one of the major challenges cities are facing today, half of humanity lives already in cities and by 2030 it is predicted that almost 60% of the world’s population will live in urban areas. This is putting pressure on many topics as cities account for 60-80% of energy consumption and cause 75% of carbon emissions.
By increasing the use of wood as a construction material we have an opportunity to make a difference and choose a solution that will work for future generations.
As an alternative to steel and concrete, wooden buildings and components store carbon during their lifetime. They can also help reduce carbon emissions in production and transport.
And this is why we invest in innovation, stakeholder partnerships and continues improvements throughout the value chain, from the forest to the customer.
For example, by combining cross laminated timber (CLT) – which acts like the concrete in traditional construction – and laminated veneer lumber (LVL) – which serves the same function as steel – we can provide optimised solutions and structures with fully resolved connection details.
